About

“Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.”
—Psalm 127:1

In 2009, Michael & Susie Sowell felt a call from the Holy Spirit to establish a multicultural, Word-centered church in Freeport, Illinois that would operate in the full gifts of the Holy Spirit.

They and others with the same vision settled on the 2nd Presbyterian Church building, located at 203 W. Pleasant Street in the Piety Hill neighborhood. It was for sale, but the asking price was far above the resources the team then had available. Miraculously, donors provided the exact amounts needed at each stage without knowing of the need, and the people of 2nd Presbyterian graciously lowered their price so that God’s work could continue in the location right away. When Faith Center Freeport opened on June 26th, 2010, we were completely debt free.

Since then, FCF has grown rapidly and has opened Joseph’s Pantry, a supplemental food ministry serving the working poor. We’ve also been able to purchase additional properties in Freeport to aid in the restorative mission of the Gospel. The church now owns the former Glick’s Triangle building, which is being transformed into Joseph’s Training Center, an outreach providing vital ministry and skills training for those in need.

About our name

Our church bears the name of Faith Center because our leadership was trained and equipped under Apostle Don Lyon of Faith Center International Ministries in Rockford, IL.

We are independent (both financially and administratively) and bear no formal ties to this organization other than our love , respect, and appreciation for Apostle Lyon’s anointing and authority.
